We went recently during the snow storm in Nov and naturally the restaurant was quiet. The food was seriously bland, no fresh ingredients and lacking in effort/imagination. We like to support local businesses but Hadley House is doing itself no favours. I would recommend jumping on the tube and going into town for high quality food. A big shame!

We thoroughly enjoyed a birthday meal at Hadley House last Saturday evening. The a la carte and grill menus were superb as was the food itself, complimented by a well balanced selection of wines. Service was excellent and our table pristine. With Champagne, two bottles of wine, a two course meal for 4 people and coffees we paid £40 per head. Great value. By the way - the Hadley House 'house liqueur' coffee was easily the best I've ever tasted - and I've done a lot of Bistros and Restaurants! Our compliments to the all the staff. We will be going back.

HH has recently been refurbished and, overhead at dinner, under new management. We decided to drop in to check out. The food wasn't bad - our starters were good, however the mains weren't that great, my partner's mash lukewarm and lamb chewy. However, what made it 10 times worse was the service - pretty awful. We sat for 10 mins before we got given a menu, got given the wrong drinks when we finally attracted the waiter's attention to order some that is. In fact, we had to keep asking for nearly everything, cutlery, drink refills. They were simply not trained properly and couldn't handle the tables (now crammed in a bit closer than before). 2 courses plus 2 glasses of wine was £70.. not far off central London prices but nowhere near as polished. We won't be going back.

Have been going to Hadley House for many years and have always found the food and service to be very good. Good atomsphere, nice and relaxed.

Have had many meals - both lunch & dinner - over the last 7 years, at this fabulous restaurant. I have NEVER been disappointed with anything I've eaten there & have recommended Hadley House to many of my friends. Service is excellent, without being intrusive & I'm always spoilt for choice with the menu. Had a particularly great evening on my birthday, last year, when nothing was too much trouble. Go & enjoy!!!

The fish is very good, the meat less so, but generally excellent all round.

The food in really good but the service is really bad and would go as far to say its the worst service of any resturant in london in its price range.

Due to recent reviews about this restaurant, we decided to try it out tonight. Good wine, good starters, but unfortunately the main meal did not live up to expectations - actually quite dissapointing and bland. The evening menu do not have nearly enough variety and you have to make a choice between fish, duck, lamb and beef (one variety in each). In fact, most people in the restaurant had the same meal, which goes to show that the variety are not to great. We had the scottish beef - which was in fact beef on a hashbrown and that is all. While eating, both me and partner came to the conclusion that we could have done better ourselves at home. It was not special at all. The presentation of this meal was boring to say the least. If you decide to visit Hadley House, be aware that the portions you order can be compared to the minimalist decorations within the restaurant itself. There is just no comparison to Central London restaurants on any level. No contest. For the priCe we paid, I would rate it below average.

A fantastic restaurant in a lively little london "village" - have lived in the area for over 10 years and have never had a bad meal at Hadley's since it opened... On occasion the serving staff do seem over-stretched, but we usually just take advantage of the reasonably priced wines (Sancerre a favourite) and make a night of it!

This was the most recent of numerous visits to Hadley House and I can safely say that I will be back again and again. We soaked up the atmosphere and enjoyed the delicious food whilst being looked after by the attentive staff who knew when to approach whilst keeping a pleasant distance. The menu was complemented by the blackboard specials and the wine list afforded ample opportunity to soothe the palate. The duck I had for the main course was sumptuous and the dessert my better half entertained was possibly the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had. We were surprised at the time we ended up staying there although it was a thoroughly worthwhile visit which left us both with a great sense of fulfilment. Bravo Hadley House!

I went to Hadley House yesterday evening for a meal with my family (3 generations, so mixed ages and there were 7 of us in total) and we had an excellent meal. It was quite busy and there were two waitresses who were extremely pleasant and very efficient. I'd definitely recommend it and can honestly say it matched any top restaurant in central London food-wise and service-wise.Deborah

I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions with several friends and family, always at a lunch-time, and usually had a pretty good experience. Unfortunately, however, they do not appear to be able to cope on an evening, with a skeletal staff of one waitress and one bar lady only. Despite booking well in advance for a table of 10, the service was absolutely appalling, even non-existent and uncaring at times. We were not served our main meal for over an hour after ordering, and had to finally request for the dirty plates with congealed food to be removed. Having given up on coffee, after almost half an hour's wait, we left. I did ask if the owner could telephone me because I was unsure if this was normal behaviour for an evening meal, but she did not deem it appropriate! NOT to be recommended for evening, although lunchtime is pretty good!

2/6/05 party of ten booked well in advance. We were all very dissapointed with extremely slow service food adequate but spoiled by long wait between two courses in 2 hours.

It is wonderful to have such an excellent eaterie in this area - without it life would be very dull. Well Done Hadley House!

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and top nosh. Excellent night out!

The food along with the atmosphere was truly fabulous. The service was friendly and afficient. This little eatery is a welcome addition to Wanstead and surrounding district.

I took my friend to Hadley House for dinner for his birthday and we had a wonderful time! The food was amazing!! The service we received from the staff was fantastic! I highly recommend Hadley House to you all. Enjoy!

This is the best restaurant anywhere never mind north east london! Luckily we have it within walking distance of our house. My husband's a vegetarian & I only eat fish and the menu is always superb. The staff are so pleasant too, and my only quibble is that it lets people smoke.

Food was amazing, staff were pleasent and there was a nice atmosphere. Will be going again soon!

5 of us from work went to Hadleys for the Monday fixed price menu. Tje tai fish cakes could have been spicier. The salmon and chicken meals were delicious as were the sweets. The cheeseboard was excellen. Good value Great service. All who went will go again.

Excellent, have eaten here a number of times and have recommended it to many friends. Any beef dish you decide to have is fantastic and their olives are the best i've ever tasted, i usually take some home with me at the end of the meal! Staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu which makes a nice change. The best thing about it though has to be that its not in central london.

Great, Fantastic, The Best. Food is well presented and yummy. I used to live in Wanstead and went all the time. I no longer live in wanstead, but still travel miles to eat there. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the meal I had a Hadley House but it would be nice to have had more choice. As I am a vegetarian there was not much on the menu for me, this would put me off going back on a regular basis.

Go as often as i can. wonderful food, worth every penny and really good atmosphere. The best restaurant in north east london - the perfect way to spend a special mealtime!! Highly recommend it.

Very disappointing. Waited 70 minutes for our starter to arrive. Food was bland. I obviously went on a bad day, but I wouldn't risk it again.

What a treasure. Staff that know about food and drink. Wonderful.

Absolutely fantastic! Great food, great ambience, top value, cant wait to go again.
