I had read the reviews before we went to "The Jolly Farmer". The re-views were not good, but I still thought we would find out for ourselves. The re-views are TRUE. We had to wait for about ten minutes before anyone came to see us when we arrived. Finally when a waitress did turn up, she told us there would be an half an hour to wait. We thought we would wait. Our friend said can we sit here. That was part of the restuarant that was not being used. The waitress was rude in the way she said no we cannot sit there. They only seem to be KEEN on having big parties, not just a mere group of three people. We were celebrating because it was my 50th birthday on 26th February and my husband's birthday on Saturday 1st.March. It was Saturday 1st.March, 2008 when we went to this disgusting place called The Jolly Farmer near Guildford. Please anyone reading this re-view take notice, don't do what I did and thought we would try it, never mind what other people thought. If you do you will really be wasting your time. NEVER AGAIN. Hopefully the JOLLY FARMER will be closed down soon.

Myself and my family visited the Jolly Farmer Harvester on the 09/03/08. We were seated immediately and then waited one hour and ten minutes for our food to arrive. The salad bar variety was very poor and not fresh the bread rolls were solid. When our meals arrived two were stone cold. On visiting the cloak rooms they were rather dirty. We were given a discount after complaining but feel that the standard needs to be improved greatly.

My family and I decided to go to the harvester at Puttenham Saturday 21/04/07. On arriving we were not even acknowledge for five minutes and when we were they showed us to a table in the corner where the light didn't even work, cause the bulb had not been changed, so we sat in the dark to eat our food. We placed our order and waited, when it came half the order was missing and my daughter who ordered tomato pasta received pasta made from Heinz tomato soup, how disgusting, they can't even make fresh tomato sauce. My husband then had to go a find the waitress to explain that half our order was missing, and she just smiled sarcastically and walked off, good service I think not. The only good thing was the salad cart which to be honest was better than the over cooked half meal that we had. The place was dirty, the toilets was dirty and generally needs updating. We will not be returning, disgusting place.

Went to this restaurant on Sunday 25th March 2007. We have been there in the past two or three times and enjoyed a good value for money meal. Last Sunday the service was appalling, the food when it eventually arrived was either cold or undercooked. Staffing was obviously a problem as two tables full of people walked out in our presence and we waited three quarters of an hour to be served. Transpires that the manager had been given the push and quite simply the remaining staff couldn't cope. It was a real Basil Fawlty moment.I will avoid this restaurant for a while.

We were full of forebodings in arranging to come to this Harvester after reading all the negative reviews from previous diners! On 27.02.09 a large party of us (15) however enjoyed efficient and careful serrvice. The food was very palatable and the salad bar was a nice bonus. We received a warm welcome and we felt that the whole evening had been good value.

Very tasty food, shame it was cold really!

Have just been for a great meal at The Jolly Farmer. Three adults, three children. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. We were seated quickly. The food came in good time and was enjoyed by everyone. Salad cart full, clean and tidy. Only small criticism one very hard roll which actually kept my niece occupied for 10 minutes as she hollowed it out to play a practical joke on her dad. I realise that Harvesters aren't The Ritz, but then they don't charge Ritz prices and are very family orientated! Today's visit was excellent value for money.

I went to this restaurant on Saturday 28 Oct with my family and my sister's family. We totalled 10. Bearing in mind it was only 6pm and there were masses of empty tables awaiting, we were somewhat astounded to be told that he wouldn't take us (not even as two tables of 5 as we requested). The manager guy simply said "no, I'm simply not doing it". No apology, no explanation. The whole reason for going was for my nephew's 10th birthday celebration - what a damper they put on that! Shame on them. Don't bother going to this restaurant and I suspect they're all much the same otherwise the company that owns them would have done something about it.

Usually go here and it's never been too bad but...just tried to book a table for a family meal on a Saturday night for 11 (bearing in mind this is a Tuesday now)...was told that they do not take bookings, and most certainly not for more than 8 people on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday night! Thought I'd add this to the reviews to save some people some time! Good luck!

I went to the Jolly Farmer, Tuesday evening, and whilst you expect it to be quiet, you expect the staff to make an effort at least. The plum pudding was too sour, the lamb chops too gristly, and the service - poor. I expect more from a local restaurant.

On Sunday the 14th May 2006 my husband and I visited The Jolly Farmer at Puttenham where we enjoyed a lovely meal apart from the steak being underdone and not well done as we had requested. When we got our bill however, we noticed that a couple of drinks had been added which we hadn't had - a Stella £2.50 and a Cranberry juice £1.25. The waitress came over and asked if everything was alright and said that she must have put the items on in error from another table. However, while I was visiting the ladies my husband heard the staff discussing this and looking over at him. The impression he got was that they had put the drinks on the tab on purpose thus making us feel that we were paying for their drinks. After all we always give a tip anyway!!We've always enjoyed our visits to this place over the years often taking family and friends with us but in future it will be 'The Green Man' at Burpham that gets our custom where we have also enjoyed some good meals.

Fantastic food, had a great meal and the staff were fantastic. Served by Jack who was extremely charming!

It seems like a familiar theme that the Jolly Farmer in Guildford is appalling!I went today with 3 other people and a one year old child we waited 25 minuets to order food, after getting our own drinks at the bar. Then after having some salad from the cart had out meal thrown at us by the waitress (who was outrageous last time we visited - should have learnt from that experience) she left all the salad bowls and plates on the tables. 10 minutes into our meal the waitress bought out half of the mix grill that they forgot to put on plate. If you want a pleasant meal with good service and atmosphere go to the Green Man in Burpham who seem always happy to accommodate!!

I and my husband visited this Jolly Farmer last Saturday, evening 16/4/5 joined the queue of another two people, when all of a sudden the assistant manageress appeared with arms crossed and in front of our faces said no food served now, a party of 10 people who had already booked asked why. She stated because i said so im the assistant manageress and non of you will be fed now. No im sorry or any reason then she stomped off, not a nice end to a lovely evening. We were not happy.

Just got back with wife and two daughters, fantastic, 'early-bird' meals all round, as much fresh, green, crispy, salad as we could eat, great staff, efficient but not over-friendly, my steak cooked as I asked (a rarity in joints like this!). My missus had sauce left over she got so much and THATS A FIRST! normally her sauce craving doesn't get quenched. And all for £30! We're going again without a doubt!

We've been twice in the past month and have had a very nice meal (for the price) and found the service to be excellent. Fair to say that it hasn't been too busy but even so, we were made to feel welcome (especially our 9 yr old). Great spot for a quick family meal.

I can't understand what all the bad reviews are about. When we visited on Monday 30th Aug it was a very nice meal, despite everyone being clearly rushed off their feet as it was a bank holiday. We did have to wait a bit for a table but surely that is a good sign because it shows they are popular. Anyway the bar staff and waiters were very friendly and the service and food was very good value for money. Would definately go again!

Great meal. Fantastic value. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. "I'll be back!"

Meal taken at harvester puttenham 8/08/04 not only was the service bad waiting for over two hours to finalise our rather mediocre meal but the attitude of the staff could have been better. The butter on the salad cart was runny. The lettuce limp , food left on the shelf waiting to be handed out for over five minutes. Then when it finally arrived it was either overcooked or there were very little sauces and the chips were not overhot. The children had an icecream sundea each and both were served in warm bowls helping the icecream to melt even quicker in the heat of the day. Not our most impressive stop there as we have been customers for quite some time. Unfortunately we propbably wont be going back after today. be warned people.

We visited the Jolly Farmer on Wednesday 14th July 2004 around 7pm. Admittedly we didnt have to wait to be seated and the waitress was with us straight away. We all ventured to the salad cart - there was NO salad and it was just a mess croutons etc all over the place! We told the waitress that there was no salad and 10 minutes later someone bought some salad out. We then realised that there were no dressings - again, we told the waitress and 10 minutes later - salad dressing was bought out to us but they had just topped up the dirty jugs from before that had been there all day - I couldn't believe it!
Then we got back to our table the people behind us had just sent their frozen corn on the cob and cold chicken back that they had waited and hour for back and had decided to leave! Our mains came out some 20-30 mins later but there was chicken missing, food was so burnt and overcooked it was inedible and it was by far the worst food I have ever been served!!!! Infact it was so bad that it was quite humourous! I have been totally put off Harvester Restaurants and when we were in the restaurant that evening several others were complaining. I really did feel SO sorry for the poor waitress who had to deal with all of the complaints. If I were the manager of the Jolly Farmer in Puttenham I would be embarrassed to say the least about the amount of complaints and the food that they are serving the public! It is such a shame as we often used to go their for family meals.... NEVER AGAIN!

We were there Bank Hol Monday 4/5 .3 adults and 3 kids 6 and under. It was pouring with rain otherwise not our first choice. The waiter was really good with the kids & food was average & good value. No sauces which disappointed the kids!! and yet again (we've been to Harvester before) they gave an activity book to each child as we waited for the food and had no crayons - so they couldnt use them..oh well-it got us out of the rain!!!!

A total waste of money. We visited at 6.50 on Sunday evening. Admittedly we were a large party, 9. The restauarant did not appear to be busy but we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The service was appalling and the food horrible. One of the children had a burger and the bun was so hard he could not bite into it. We were given our meals and promised sauces which arrived ten minutes later, obviously we wanted them at the same time. After we had eaten and sat there with the dirty plates for a long while our waiter turned up and said that " he supposed he had better clear the table". I began to laugh as I could not beleive his rude attitude and he made a sarcastic comment. We felt as though we were a nuisance and they were put out to have us there. In all we were in the restauarnt an hour and forty minutes, to eat only a main course each and the bill was high for what we had had. I will never go to this restaurant again.

We visited on valentines day it was also our first anniversary we were disgusted with the service after waiting half an hour for a table then waiting another half an hour to be asked what we wanted, we went over to look at the salad cart there was no salad in the cart it was all over the floor and stuck to your shoes , and the left overs that were in there looked like they had sat there for days. We passed on the salad and waited for our meal whilst waiting we happened to look down at our cutlery that had been laid ready for eating it had food, water marks, finger prints and it was disgusting so we proceeded to look at the rest of the table they were all the same dirty and food stuck all over them, we didn't stop for the meal and didn't make a scene because it was valentines day and we didn't want to ruin everyones meals so we just got up and walked out but i am in the process of writing a letter to there headquarters because i think that was disgusting. Anyone who is thinking of going there for a nice meal think again its not nice go to the green man that's the nicest Harvester i have ever been to.

DON'T DO IT ! Terrible time. Had to wait 30 mins for a table with two 7 year olds at 6:30 on a Sunday. Were then told that our waitress was cr*p because they are trained at dead periods like early Sunday nights( 'would you like an egg or pineapple with your spitroast chicken' - 'how would you like your ribs cooked?' ). All of the salad bowls were dirty. The wine was warm and thrown on to the table without the opportunity to taste it. That is just scratching the surface - there were no vegetables and three main dishes were off When we asked to speak to the manager he came to the table and was an arrogant boor who spoke down to us and grudgingly gave us free food. We would of been happy to pay for the food if an apology and acceptable excuse was offered. If you want a Harvester in the Guildford area then go to the Green Man in Burpham - it's really nice on a Sunday with young kids. Use the Jolly Farmer at your peril or alternatively try Fawlty Towers in Torquay. We half expected to have Manuel at our table.

I visited the Jolly Farmer on a Saturday evening in January with my husband and 2 grown up children. The service was fine. the salad cart properly filled and the food plentiful. We were seated well away from a large birthday party, which was thoughtful. Would visit again.
