Not been here for over 15 years as I moved away to Wigan. But was passing the other day and could not believe it was still open. I always used to go to the Canadian Charcoal Pit and remembered it as the best burgers I ever had. Well... I was pleasantly surprised to find they were as good as ever. I had a half pound Hawain burger. It was just as tasty as I remember. Will be making the trip back again for a Praire dog. Seems extreme to do a 30 mile trip for a burger. But when it's the best, yes it is worth it (and I won't wait another 15 years).

Old charcoal pit was superb. Now its under new management from 2010 it is awful ....... stay well clear. Use the altrincham branch it is worth it.

Drove through Sale last night, 1st time in 40+ years, could not believe that the takeaway was still operating. I was the 1st customer when it originally opened in circa 62-63. stopped, turned round and checked it out, food still awesome.

Don't let the general appearance of these places put you off. The burgers and dogs are awesome. The chicken looks good too. The chips are pretty standard take out fare, but hot and crunchy and delicious with loads of salt and vinegar. What their shops lack in refinement they more than make up for in the quality of their food. Next time you crave a burger moment, skip the corporate chains and grab yourself a taste of fast food heaven. Trust me, you'll be hooked.

Moved to London about a year ago & one of the first things I do on returning to Alty is visit the Charcoal Pit for either a burger or a chicken kebab. There's nowhere better!

Once one has eaten a bonanza burger, there is only one nice cheeseburger. I go to the Altrincham charcoal pit but I'm sure that the Sale one's equally as BARE-NICE!
